Minister Confirms Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense official has stated that the MoD is actively investigating the potential threats associated with Chinese-made vehicles, and staff have been advised to refrain from discussing secret matters in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for MoD Staff

During a recent appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed claims that MoD staff have been instructed not to talk about classified information while travelling in Chinese vehicles.

The minister stated that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but stressed that security is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a secret level in any car, due to the growing threats of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to only have those confidential talks in secure locations. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Defence Background

This revelation comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the presence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese buses, which could allow China to disable buses and bring chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

This broader security situation underscores the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in all areas of official operations, from transport usage to communication habits.
